The Castle was erected during 1300 on the ruins of a Roman military outpost. During the 17th century it began to acquire its status as a cultural and humanistic centre, one that it maintains to this day. Numerous renowned Guests have spent time at the Castle: Elisabeth of Austria, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, Johann Strauss, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Gabriele d’Annunzio and the hermetic poet Rainer Maria Rilke. With its Park and its Bunker it is a fascinating tourist attraction at the gates of Trieste immersed in the nature among history, culture and nobility. The park is set up on different levels with extensive, colourful cascades of flowers of many types that form splashes of colour within the classical Mediterranean vegetation. More than 21.000 flowers are planted in periodical rotation during the year. The Castle is a fascinating location where it is possible to organize gala dinners, weddings, meetings, art exhibition, concerts, theatrical performances, cultural events or eno-gastronomic meetings. The Castle can also be rented as location for films or photo-shoot. In its interior, the furnishings, pictures, valuables, books and mementoes collected over centuries bestow a warm, elegant atmosphere on the Castle are an invitation to relax and enjoy quiet walks. The charming and discreet hospitality offered by the owners is well known. The magnificent bedrooms is available only for Guests of the various events.
