Details

Otiosa, whose name derives from the Latin “Otium”, signifying a time for leisure, conviviality and contemplation, has been designed with the aim to provide relaxation and repose. If you are looking for a place to cut short from the stress of your busy life and regenerate your creative energy, this is the perfect destination.

The Villa is immersed in an uncontaminated natural landscape. Built in 1783, it was entirely restructured in 2012, whilst it still respects its historical and natural environment. All the construction materials employed are of local origin (like the floor made of black volcanic stone from Etna and the door and window frames made of white stone of Modica). The furniture were chosen and arranged in an exquisite Moroccan style, following the Arabic cultural roots of the Region.

The main entrance has an impressive hallway with high beamed ceilings, leading outwards, through a white stone arch, to the suggestive central courtyard, shadowed by a massive palm tree. Wrapped around the courtyard are 3 spacious areas dedicated to living/TV room.

The kitchen serves an elegant dining room and a shady patio facing the garden. The courtyard and the patio are furnished for lounging, chatting and dining. The steps found at the side of the courtyard, lead up to a vast panoramic terrace (13 m x 6 m) from where one may enjoy a limitless view on the countryside and on Capo Passero, the watershed between Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, as well as, during the night, starry Saharan skies.

The main building has 5 double bedrooms (4 at ground floor – 1 at 1st floor) plus one single room for the staff beside the kitchen; 2 bedrooms are lofts and have an additional mezzanine bed. The separate building consists of a spacious loft for 2/3 people. All rooms have their dedicated bathroom enriched with Moroccan handmade tiles.

At Otiosa you can make of each day a unique experience. Three are the main drivers: culture and history, uncontaminated nature and excellent food.
Noto, the most representative baroque town of the South-East Sicily, protected by UNESCO, and Siracusa, with its Greek theatre and temples, are just next-door. Alternatively, you may dive into the sea waves at the magnificent beaches of Vendicari, a WWF reserve, or into the spring waters of the spectacular canyons of Monti Iblei.
Restaurants in Ragusa have more Michelin stars than any other place in Europe but Paris. Marzamemi, a small fishermen harbour on the Ionian Sea, also constitutes a peerless destination for a relaxing lunch of the highest quality on the seashore.

Highlights

The villa stands in an estate of 30 Ha., predominantly planted with olive trees, between Noto and Siracusa, on the haut-plateau of Monti Iblei, a natural reserve which overviews the very south finisterre of the island of Sicily. Few meters from the Villa, on top of an hill dominating the estate, surrounded by a lawn and flanked by a couple of shady pergolas, is the salty water swimming pool (16 m. length / 4,5 m. wide) made of sand to resemble a natural pond. Several tracks lead from the Villa through the olive groves to panoramic points located within the vast estate.
